Heal It Right
Tattoo Aftercare
Proper aftercare is one of the most important parts of the tattoo process. Following the correct healing instructions will help your tattoo heal cleanly, retain maximum detail and achieve the best long-term result.
AFTERCARE INTRODUCTION
Every tattoo is an open wound and proper care is essential for both healing and longevity.
While the tattooing process is finished when you leave the studio, the healing process is only just beginning.
Following the aftercare instructions below will help reduce complications and ensure your tattoo heals as intended.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
Avoid soaking your tattoo in water during the healing process.
Avoid excessive sun exposure while healing.
Do not scratch, pick or peel your tattoo.
Follow the aftercare method recommended by Chris for your specific tattoo.

Healing Method 1
Aftercare With Cream
Your tattoo will be wrapped with cling film or a protective bandage. Leave this in place for approximately 2–4 hours unless otherwise instructed.
- Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water.
- Use a mild fragrance-free cleanser.
- Pat dry using a clean paper towel.
- Avoid rubbing the tattoo.
- Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
- Dr Bronner's Unscented Soap
Using clean hands, apply a very thin layer of Dr Pickles Original Tattoo Balm.
Apply only enough to lightly moisturise the skin. Over-moisturising can slow healing.
Wash and moisturise 2–3 times per day as required.
Healing normally takes approximately 2–3 weeks.
These are all normal parts of the healing process.
Healing Method 2
Fixomull Stretch Healing
Your tattoo will be covered with Fixomull Stretch.
This breathable bandage helps protect the tattoo while creating an ideal healing environment.
Leave the bandage in place for approximately 5–6 days unless otherwise instructed.
- Significant irritation develops
- Excessive leakage occurs
- The bandage begins lifting substantially
Remove the bandage slowly under warm running water.
Peel from the edges and avoid pulling straight upward.
- Wash gently with lukewarm water
- Use a fragrance-free cleanser
- Pat dry using a clean paper towel
If the tattoo feels dry after removal, apply a very light layer of Dr Pickles Original Tattoo Balm.
These are all normal parts of the healing process.
Important
Avoid During Healing
Avoid the following during healing:
Scratching, picking or peeling the tattoo
Direct sun exposure
Tight clothing rubbing against the tattoo
Excessive sweating during the first few days
Soaking the tattoo in water, including baths, pools, spas, oceans or any other prolonged water exposure
Showering is completely fine, however prolonged soaking should be avoided until the tattoo has fully healed.
Following these guidelines will help minimise complications and ensure the best possible healing result.
For Life
Long Term Tattoo Care
A well-healed tattoo still requires ongoing care.
To keep your tattoo looking its best:
Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen whenever the tattoo is exposed to sunlight.
Keep the skin moisturised.
Avoid prolonged UV exposure where possible.
Maintain healthy skin through regular hydration and skincare.
Proper long-term care will help preserve colour, detail and contrast for years to come.
Share Your Result
Healed Photos
One of the most rewarding parts of the tattoo process is seeing how a tattoo settles and heals over time.
If you're happy to share your healed result, Chris would love to see it.
Feel free to send through healed photos or drop by the studio so professional healed photos can be taken.
Healed photos also help showcase how tattoos age and settle once the healing process is complete.
